After a long involvement with the pioneers of the Margaret River; shareholder in Pierro & Fire Gully vineyards, many years informal study of viticulture and wine making techniques in most of the world’s premium wine regions, Dr Peter Thompson established the family’s vineyard at Wilyabrup in 1994.
The Thompson Estate winemakers have been Australian leaders in their winemaking specialties of chardonnay (Mike Peterkin of Pierro), cabernet (Mark Messenger of Juniper Estate) and sparkling pinot chardonnay (Harold Osborne of Cloudy Bay and Pelorus). In early 2009 Thompson Estate completed its winery, just in time for vintage. Bob Cartwright, formerly Leeuwin Estate’s winemaker for 27 vintages now makes all the Thompson Estate wines.
